yyxy the 3rd and final sub-unit of loona

yyxy (pronounced “why why by why”) is the third sub-unit of the K-pop group LOONA, consisting of Yves, Chuu, Go Won, and Olivia Hye. They debuted in 2018 with the mini album beauty&thebeat, led by the whimsical and emotional track “love4eva.” While the music is dreamy and elegant, yyxy's concept dives deep into themes of identity, self-love, and rebellion, playing a major role in LOONA's larger lore, the “LOONAVERSE.”

In the LOONAVERSE, yyxy represents Eden—a place of innocence and perfection. But rather than stay confined within this paradise, the members each make the choice to leave it behind. Their journey is about rejecting pre-written destinies to forge their own paths. Yves starts it all by taking a symbolic bite of the forbidden fruit, challenging the rules. Chuu, Go Won, and Olivia Hye follow, each facing internal struggles like desire, loss, and anger as they search for meaning beyond perfection. yyxy's story is filled with symbolism: apples, mirrors, and forests all hint at transformation and awakening. Through both music and visuals, the unit explores the pain and beauty of growing up, showing that true freedom comes from embracing who you are. Even if it means falling from Eden.
